SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE RESPONSE
Carbon assessment uptake improves but remains low
On sustainability, engagement generally remains stagnant when compared to previous reports. Forty-four percent of respondents say that only 0–25 percent of their projects have a significant commitment to net-zero carbon.
However, with regards to embodied carbon assessments, 86 percent of respondents state that 50 percent or less of their projects do not carry out an embodied carbon assessment. While significant, it is a reduction from 94 percent of respondents in Q3 2024.
Retrofit activity continues to focus on insulation (27 percent), heat pump installations (26 percent), and window replacements (23 percent), reflecting a growing emphasis on energy efficiency rather than new-build carbon reduction.
These trends suggest that the sector’s sustainability focus is currently concentrated on operational improvements rather than whole-life carbon reduction in new builds.
"We invest heavily in the use of modern methods of construction which vastly reduce carbon emissions, improve quality and reduce safety risk."
